1. Festive potato chip crack
Salty, sweet, and absolutely addictive, Christmas Potato Chip Crack is the holiday snack you never knew you needed. Crunchy potato chips get coated in buttery toffee, drizzled with chocolate, and topped with sprinkles for the ultimate festive treat. It’s part candy, part snack mix, and completely impossible to stop eating. Make a double batch (trust me). Perfect for Christmas snacking or gifting!
This recipe serves: 6
Prep time: 10 minutes
Rest time: 20 minutes
You will need
• 10 ounces wavy/kettle potato chips
• 2 sticks (1 cup, or 16 tablespoons) unsalted butter
• 1 cup light brown sugar
• 1/2 teaspoon vanilla
• ½ pound white almond bark
• ½ cup red melting chocolate
• ½ cup green melting chocolate
• Christmas sprinkles
To begin, pre-heat the oven to 375 degrees; line an 11 x 7 baking sheet with parchment paper.
Pour the potato chips onto the sheet in an even layer.
Melt the butter and sugar in a saucepan over medium heat.
Bring to a boil and cook, whisking constantly for 3 minutes.
Remove from heat and carefully stir in the vanilla.
Carefully pour the caramel over the potato chips and bake for 6 minutes.
Remove the pan from the oven.
In a microwave safe bowl in 30 second increments melt the white almond bark.
Repeat with the red and green melting chocolate.
Pour the white, red and green chocolate all over the chips and swirl around to create a marble pattern.
Immediately sprinkle with sprinkles.
Set aside to cool completely.
Break into pieces for serving.
Tips & Tricks:
• Use kettle chips: Kettle-style or wavy chips hold up best to the caramel and melted chocolate. Regular chips can get soggy or fall apart.
• Line your pan: Don’t skip the parchment paper! It makes cleanup a breeze and helps the finished bark release easily.
• Boil caramel exactly 3 minutes: Too short and it stays soft; too long and it can get bitter or over-hard.
• Swirl fast: Once the chocolates are poured on top, work quickly to swirl before everything sets.
• Let it cool fully: Don’t try to break it while warm, give it time to firm up completely for clean, crunchy pieces.
Substitutions:
Potato chips → Try pretzels, saltines, or even crispy chow mein noodles for a fun twist.
White almond bark → You can use white chocolate chips or vanilla candy melts instead (just watch for seizing when melting).
Red/green melts → If you don’t have colored chocolate, drizzle with dark and white chocolate, then decorate with red/green sprinkles instead.
Butter → Only use unsalted here. Salted will overpower the already salty chips.
Brown sugar → Use light or dark, dark will give a deeper caramel flavor.
Variations:
Peppermint twist: Add crushed candy canes to the top along with (or instead of) sprinkles.
Nutty version: Add chopped pecans, peanuts, or almonds on top for a salty-sweet crunch.
Add mini M&Ms: Press red and green mini M&Ms into the chocolate before it sets for extra fun and color.
Make it Halloween or Valentine’s: Swap the colors and sprinkles to fit any holiday. This base works all year!
Drizzle with caramel: Add a final drizzle of jarred caramel sauce after the chocolate swirls for even more decadence.
